The unit functions as a mobile classroom, makerspace, and interactive learning environment capable of supporting workshops, demonstrations, and community engagement activities both inside and outside of the unit.
Once a booking is confirmed, the mobile makerspace travels across New Brunswick to support school visits, community programming, conferences, events, and youth or post-secondary workshops. The program is currently fully funded, with the goal of ensuring that hands-on STEAM innovation and cultural learning are accessible to Indigenous youth and communities across the province.
Each visit offers immersive sessions in areas such as 3D modeling, robotics, animation, digital storytelling, and land-based science, providing youth with practical opportunities to explore new ideas, develop skills, and engage with technologies in meaningful ways. All activities are guided by Indigenous educators and mentors, ensuring that the learning is both aligned with educational outcomes and deeply connected to culture, identity, and community.
To meet the unique goals of every visit, the Wabanaki in Motion NB: Roots to Stars Mobile Makerspace offers flexible and highly customizable programming instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. Workshops and activities can be easily adjusted based on participant age ranges, experience levels, workshop durations, and specific community interests. By utilizing a modular framework, our team can seamlessly interchange technologies and adapt learning levels to deliver meaningful, community-centered experiences for any event format or layout.
To ensure a safe and empowering environment, workshops involving heavy fabrication tools (such as laser cutters, CNC machines, and soldering stations) are recommended for ages 16+ and may require facilitator supervision and a brief safety orientation before use.
