The Seven Sacred Teachings

The Seven Sacred Teachings help guide the values we strive to embody through Wabanaki in Motion NB: Roots to Stars. While teachings may be shared differently among Indigenous communities, these guidelines remind us of the importance of living in a good way and supporting one another through learning and growth.

These teachings directly help shape the environment we strive to create through our programming, profoundly influencing how participants work together, approach problem-solving, support one another, and engage with new ideas and technologies.

Our Core Values in Action:

• Love/Eagle: Love teaches us to care for ourselves, our communities, and the world around us. In WIM, we encourage participants to support one another, celebrate each other's successes, and create welcoming learning environments.

• Respect/Buffalo: Respect reminds us to honour ourselves, others, our cultures, and the tools and spaces we use. Participants are encouraged to listen, collaborate, and recognize the unique strengths that each person brings to the community.

• Courage/Bear: Courage is about facing challenges and stepping outside of our comfort zones. Whether trying a new technology, speaking up with an idea, or learning from mistakes, we encourage learners to be brave and resilient in their journey.

• Honesty/Sabe (Bigfoot): Honesty asks us to be true to ourselves and others. We foster safe environments where participants can ask questions, acknowledge what they do and do not know, and grow through authentic learning experiences.

• Wisdom/Beaver: Wisdom is gained through experience, reflection, and sharing knowledge. Through hands-on STEAM activities, participants build practical skills while learning from peers, facilitators, and community members.

• Humility/Wolf: Humility reminds us that we all have something to learn and something to teach. Collaboration and teamwork are essential parts of the Wabanaki in Motion NB: Roots to Stars experience.

• Truth/Turtle: Truth encourages us to live according to all the teachings and to walk our own path with integrity. We strive to create meaningful learning opportunities that reflect who we are and the communities we serve.
