To help us create the best possible experience for your community, please ensure you have reviewed the Mobile Unit's technical specifications and setup requirements.
A mobile makerspace is a custom-built trailer that brings a collaborative innovation lab and classroom directly into local communities. It is equipped with emerging technologies and tools allowing learners to access hands-on STEAM education, develop digital skills, and bring creative physical or digital projects to life.
Who can participate in the workshops?
Our programming is primarily tailored for Indigenous post-secondary students, young adults, community learners, and workforce participants aged 18+. Participants aged 16-17 are also welcome but require facilitator supervision and a safety orientation due to the technical nature of the equipment.
Is there a fee to book the Wabanaki in Motion Mobile Makerspace?
No. The program is fully funded, so there is absolutely no cost for booking a visit. Our primary goal is to make high-quality STEAM and cultural programming fully accessible to Indigenous youth and communities across New Brunswick.
What are the space and power requirements for a visit?
Our 38-foot mobile makerspace expands to 14 feet wide when fully opened, and requires a solid, level surface (such as school parking lots, event grounds, convention spaces, outdoor paved areas) with clear surroundings for participant flow. The unit is entirely self-sufficient with its own onboard generator for power and built-in Starlink internet. Nearby power access is preferred but not mandatory.
How can I contact the team for booking or general inquiries?
For general inquiries, detailed program specifications, or to discuss customized booking options for your community, please contact the Wabanaki in Motion NB team.
What is the policy for cancellations or rescheduling?
If you need to cancel or change your scheduled visit, please notify our team at least 48 hours in advance. This allows us to adjust our travel logistics and reallocated the time slot to another community. In the event of severe weather or unsafe road conditions, the WIM team will contact you directly to safely reschedule the visit.
What experiences and activities are included during a visit?
Each visit offers an immersive, hands-on learning environment organized into clear technical stations. Our programming is designed to be highly flexible and customizable based on age groups, skill levels, community interests, and event formats. Depending on the setup, some workshops may be more facilitator-led, while others allow for more self-guided exploration. Participants can generally expect:
Do I need prior technology experience to participate in the workshops?
Not at all. Our programming is highly customizable and designed to accommodate all skill levels. For absolute beginners, we offer an Introductory Level that guides you step-by-step through approachable, hands-on activities to build your confidence and skills from scratch.
What is the maximum capacity for a workshop session?
Capacity depends on the event format, visit length, staffing, and selected workshops. We can accommodate both small-group, hands-on sessions inside the unit and larger group through rotating activities and outdoor stations. Workshop and machinery setups will vary based on available space and facilitator availability to ensure optimal safety. Our team will work closely with you during the booking process to customize the setup for your group's needs.
Can participants bring their own materials from home?
Yes, participants may be allowed to bring their own materials (such as specific fabrics for sewing/embroidery or compatible blanks for engraving) depending on the activity. However, all external materials must be thoroughly reviewed and approved by our onsite team beforehand to guarantee safety and machine compatibility. In most cases, WIM will fully provide all required materials and supplies needed for the core workshops.
Do participants get to keep the items they create?
Yes! Participants will generally be able to keep the physical or digital projects they create during the workshops and sessions whenever possible.
